As an association we take education seriously. Les amis des chats provides advice and information on cat healthcare and responsible pet ownership, adopting, treatments, and dealing with strays.

Education in schools fulfils several purposes, firstly to raise awareness, children will talk to their parents about what they are doing in school and the message will spread. Education helps to dispel myths and traditionally held views about cats. It is an invaluable long term way to change community attitudes and promote community involvement - these children will soon grow up and may be running their local community and have influence in local policies, or they may just be future cat owners.
A pilot scheme of school newsletters aimed specifically at 7-11 year olds, received great success in June 2008 and we are raising funds to extend this scheme. It provides information to children on caring for cats and explain the good work that is performed by Les amis des chats. The intention is that children will understand the benefits of having cats neutered, rather than having to deal with frequent births of unwanted kittens, many of which are dumped or routinely killed. These newsletters are written by children for children.
This year we have been in close contact with the local education authority who has agreed to a pilot scheme titled 'Anglais avec les chats' which incorporates teaching English through cat welfare and compassion issues. The first lesson was held with the children of Touffailles primary school in Tarn et Garonne. This proved to be a great success and we have already received requests for the next lesson.
We have more schools standing by and ready to accept us. If you feel able to take our programme into your local school, please contact us.
